Denise Lee Richards was born on February 17, 1971 in Downers Grove, Illinois, the daughter of Joni, a coffee shop owner, and Irv Richards, a telephone engineer. She and her sister Michelle grew up in both Downers Grove and Mokena in Illinois. When she was fifteen years old, she moved with her family to Oceanside, California. She graduated from El Camino High School in 1989, where she was a cheerleader.
Denise began modeling after graduation. She went to Paris, Tokyo and New York for various modeling stints, making a name for herself. Despite her growing popularity as a model, she wanted more. She further said that Sheen was paranoid and obsessive, prone to conspiracy theories and weird fascinations, including an “abnormal fascination” with Nicole Simpson’s death. She also said that Charlie visited prostitutes and was addicted to gambling and prescription drugs. According to Richards, her husband even posted a picture of his erect penis on his online profile of a “sex-search type” website. She further elaborated that he frequently visited porn sites featuring “very young girls” and websites “involving gay pornography also involving very young men who also did not look like adults”. She was granted the restraining order against Sheen based on these allegations.
Charlie Sheen denied these reports. He said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that Richards’ actions were a “smear campaign” and insisted that he was a responsible father who would “give his life for his children.” He also said that Denise is “the only one culpable for putting these radical allegations out for public consumption… my children included.”
Denise added controversy to her name when she briefly dated Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, shortly after their respective separations from Sheen and Heather Locklear, ending a close relationship with Locklear in the process.
The drama in her life continued when officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were called to the River Rock Casino in Richmond, B.C., where Richards was making a movie. She apparently confronted some photographers after they took pictures of her nude from a nearby balcony. She grabbed one of their laptops and threw it over the balcony. The laptop landed near two elderly women and one of them was mildly injured by the incident. The elderly woman was treated by responding emergency personnel.
In 2008, she decided to include her two daughters with Charlie Sheen in her very own upcoming reality TV show. On January 25, 2008, she won a court case against Sheen so that she can include her daughters in the said show. Sheen’s request to block the move was rejected by a judge, so he urged fans to boycott the show. He said that Richards’ plans were “greedy, vain and exploitative.”
